Assisted Rehoming for Found Animals

We are now offering assisted rehoming so that we can help found pets that have been unclaimed by their owners find their new homes while remaining in your care.

How does assisted rehoming work?

Step 1: Have the animal scanned for a microchip, make a report with the county shelter of the county the animal was found in, and post them on Dayton Ohio and Surrounding Area Lost and Found Pets  or a different Facebook page for the city they were found in.

Step 2: Fill out our stray request form at the bottom of this page. We are only able to assist with animals that have been spayed or neutered at this time.

Step 3: A Joseph's Legacy team member will reach out to you to get additional information as well as photos to add to the pets listing

Step 4: Once the pet is listed, the Joseph's Legacy Adoption Team will review applications for your pet as they come in.

Step 5: Once an applicant has been reviewed, a Joseph's Legacy team member will send you information on the applicant so that you can make a decision on the pets placement.

Step 6: Once you've decided on the pet's new home, Joseph's Legacy will send you and the new owner a contract to print for your records, and Joseph's Legacy will collect a donation from the new owner as a rehoming fee.

We require that the pet has been scanned for a microchip, that a report is made at the county shelter of the county the animal was found in, and that they have been posted on Dayton Ohio and Surrounding Area Lost and Found Pets or a different Facebook page for the city they were found in before submitting a stray request. All strays should be held for a minimum of 3 days with attempts to find an owner before being rehomed.
